" .... e molti applausi scrosciano alla fine di un gran numero di arie, specialmente nell’ultimo atto, in cui, praticamente, ad ogni aria segue un applauso, con il povero Graham Pushee costretto a richiamare l’attenzione sul fatto che l’opera non è ancora finita, perché c’è ancora da eseguire un recitativo ed il coro di chiusura!
Ed è proprio Graham Pushee ( Giulio Cesare) che conferisce lustro a questa rappresentazione, sfoderando una invidiabile prestazione sotto ogni punto di vista: mette in gioco anche delle buone capacità mimiche e recitative, mostrando di saperci fare e di aver mestiere. Grazie alla sua grande esperienza ( è sulle scene dal 1973, quando debuttò in “Midsummer night’s dream”), riesce a conferire al personaggio un’eccellente vena patetica ( basta guardare ed ascoltare “Dall’ondoso periglio”). Non avrà una voce corposa come quella di altri illustri colleghi, ma rimane sempre un ottimo controtenore, che si produce in gradevoli cesellature nel registro alto, non risparmiandosi qualche acuto di quelli che si stagliano solitari sulla scena e che ammutiscono tutti gli astanti. Molto bella ed originale l’esecuzione di “ Se in fiorito ameno prato”, in cui egli duetta con il primo violino, lasciando spazio all’improvvisazione in pieno stile barocco: chissà che questo delizioso siparietto non si sia verificato durante una delle tante repliche di questa splendida opera…"

Most of the latter comes, fittingly, from the two principals…The Giulio is Graham Pushee. Again, though he was one of the few bright spots in the under-vitalized Trevor Pinnock recording of Tamerlano … I was unprepared for the sheer splendor of his singing here. With this performance, firm in line, rich in tone, and commanding a remarkably delicate yet solid pianissimo, the Australian established his claim to a place in the very first rank of countertenors, which in these days of Andreas Scholl, David Daniels, Robin Blaze, Daniel Taylor, and Bejun Mehta is saying a great deal."

Graham Pushee sang "Frau Schmetterling" on the original cast recording of Freudiana. He was in the stage show which was on at the Theatre an der Wien in Vienna in December 1990. The musical was written by Eric Woolfson and was in German. It is now impossible to buy and is a collector's item.
