Dan ‘DJ Fresh’ Stein is set to take another step up in his illustrious career by launching his incredible live show in late 2011. FRESH/LIVE aims to amplify the club experience by incorporating a full live band to perform Fresh’s latest and greatest tracks in authentic fashion.
After winning many awards with BC, including KMAG’s best album of 2000, he teamed up with Adam F in 2003 to found Breakbeat Kaos. The label quickly became a tastemaker, championing Pendulum’s game-changing album Hold Your Colour and playing host to Fresh’s critically acclaimed debut LP, Escape from Planet Monday.
But in the last 12 months, DJ Fresh has truly become a household name with the huge success of tracks like Gold Dust & Louder. With Louder notching up over 500,000 sales and being the first Number 1 for Fresh it also became the first EVER dubstep track to top the charts and feature as the soundtrack to the Lucozade advert. One of the originators of drum&bass, Fresh began his career as founding member of the supergroup Bad Company. In ‘98 when Fresh was still 19, the group released The Nine - a track that was to later be voted the best d&b tune of all time by D&B Arena. Not bad for a guy still in his teens!
Constantly pushing the boundaries of the d&b/dubstep crossover sound, FRESH/LIVE combines the technique and hysteria of his DJ sets with the energy of a live instrumental performance. Fresh has handpicked a fine selection of musicians to create a highly skilful unit that will delight crowds with their expertise.
On the all-important drums is the magnificent Kodish, a man with over 10 years experience as a drummer in the scene, having performed with such eminent acts as Moving Fusion, BC and Pendulum. His involvement with the scene that Fresh has helped establish speaks volumes of his understanding of the music and its roots.
On guitar is Richard De Rosa, founder of Ska/Swing band Scubaroots who combine the sounds of yesteryear with electro and d&b, and have performed to 1000s at countless festivals. Seemingly a master of all trades, he also produced the band’s album, has since been nominated for producer of the year at the SouthWest Music Awards, and recently performed on Radio 1’s Live Lounge with Example & Fresh.
Vocalist Fleur exploded onto the scene after performing on X Factor to 9 million TV viewers in 2005. Since then she’s begun an increasingly successful solo career, having sung with Fresh on Live Lounge and Ms Dynamite on BBC 1Xtra. Her stunning, soulful voice promises to tie all the live elements together fantastically and produce an event of epic proportions!
With Fresh himself on the keys and the decks, this exciting new concept is set to stun crowds into submission and tear up dancefloors across the nation. Make sure you don’t miss out on this year’s biggest live event!
