You can choose from three models: the dual 800MHz Power Mac G4 with SuperDrive, 867MHz Power Mac G4 with SuperDrive or the 733MHz Power Mac G4 with a CD-RW drive.
The chip inside the Power Mac G4 (the PowerPC G4 with Velocity Engine) can process information in 128-bit chunks, compared with the 32 or 64-bit chunks in traditional processors. This means the PowerPC G4 can perform four (sometimes eight) 32-bit floating-point calculations in a single cycle two/four times faster than traditional processors.

Superdrive
Power Mac G4 models with the SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW) can record DVD-Video discs for playback on most standard DVD players. The SuperDrive reads DVD titles at 4x (5.4 megabytes per second), and writes to 4.7-gigabyte DVD-R discs at 2x (2.7 megabytes per second). The SuperDrive also reads CDs at 24x, writes to CD-R at 8x and writes to CD-RW at 4x. It supports DVD-Video, DVD-ROM and DVD-R, as well as CD-ROM, CD-Audio, CD-R, CD-RW, CD-I, CD-I Bridge, CD Extended, CD Mixed Mode and Photo CD media.

Burn your own CDs and DVDs
Available iMovie video editing software (preinstalled on every new Power Mac G4), and iDVD Apple's software to create your own DVD videos. All three models enable you to burn your own music CDs with iTunes software and to archive image and data files using Disc Burner software (both applications are included).

NVIDIA GeForce2 MX and 3MX
You can get the new Power Mac G4 with three graphics processing units. The NVIDIA GeForce2 MX with 32MB of SDRAM delivers blazing-fast, high-resolution 2D and 3D graphics in true 32-bit color. The NVIDIA GeForce2 MX graphics card with TwinView and 64MB of SDRAM lets you connect both an Apple display (using the Apple Display Connector) and a VGA display without requiring an additional graphics card. So you'll have all four of your PCI slots free for adding your audio, video and SCSI cards.
You can also get the NVIDIA GeForce3 graphics processing unit with 64MB of DDR RAM as a build-to-order option from the Apple Store. With more than 57 million transistors, the GeForce3 can perform 800 billion operations per second including a record-shattering 76 billion floating-point operations per second, or 76 gigaflops.

Superfast connections
The new Power Mac G4 also features a 133MHz system bus with over 1Gbps data throughput, built-in Gigabit Ethernet (for shooting large files across LAN at high speeds), 56K V.90 modem, AirPort Card slot, two 400Mbps FireWire ports and two USB ports.
Incidentally, FireWire, PCI expansion (four full-length 64-bit, 33MHz PCI slots with 215MB per second throughput) and Gigabit Ethernet are integrated directly into the main memory controller, reducing latencies and providing off-the-charts I/O performance. Plus support for up to 1.5GB of PC133 SDRAM.

Cache
All three Power Mac G4 models feature 256K L2 cache per processor, running at full processor speed. In addition, the 867MHz system has 2MB of L3 backside cache running at one-fourth the processor speed and the dual 800MHz Power Mac G4 has 2MB backside L3 cache per processor, for a total of 4MB.
Ample on-chip and backside cache boosts processor efficiency and performance because the processor can access data and instruction sets from the cache faster than it can from main memory. The results are reduced latency and increased processor efficiency. Additionally, increased backside cache enable the Power Mac G4 to handle large data sets like those required for streaming media, ripping MP3s and encoding video.

Storage
The Power Mac G4 comes with 40GB (733MHz model), 60GB (867MHz) and 80GB (dual 800MHz) hard disk drives and three 3.5-inch hard disk drive expansion bays with support for up to two internal ATA drives, three internal SCSI drives, or a combination of two ATA and one SCSI drives for a total of 232GB of internal storage. You can also get 3x180GB Barracuda Ultra SCSI drives from Seagate for a total of 540 gigabytes of storage.

The new Power Mac G4 comes with CD-burning capabilities and with iTunes and Disc Burner software preinstalled. iTunes turns Power Mac G4 into a digital jukebox, complete with easy-to-use tools for recording music from audio CDs, searching and browsing your entire music collection, converting songs to MP3 format and burning your own custom CDs.

DVD Studio Pro gets around the high price of DVD recorders by letting you create, test and play your projects on your computer before sending them out to a service bureau for writing to disc. DVD projects authored with DVD Studio Pro can include every feature the DVD-Video standard allows including motion or still menus, web links, multiple language tracks, up to 99 video tracks (each enhanced with up to 9 different angles), 8 separate audio streams and 32 subtitle streams.
You can run the DVDs you make with DVD Studio Pro on the DVD player connected to your TV (and on your computer's DVD player) because DVDs authored with DVD Studio Pro are fully compatible with the DVD-Video standard.

iDVD gives you a simple one-window interface for assembling a DVD. It accepts QuickTime files (video, audio and stills) as input, makes any number of clips, menus, slide shows and buttons for navigation purposes.
You can customize the look of your DVD by using your own pictures, or choose one of several visual themes included with iDVD. And because iDVD is designed to perform flawlessly with the SuperDrive, you can burn DVD discs with a single click on your Power Mac G4.
It sets MPEG encoding parameters automatically to ensure the best quality, encodes projects to MPEG and (perhaps most important) starts writing the disc when you click on the Burn button. In addition to the number of professionally-designed background images the software comes with, iDVD also lets you use your own pictures as backgrounds for menus.

Power Mac G4 and Final Cut Pro
Thru the built-in 400Mbps FireWire you can connect DV camcorder or video recorder/player and import video with digital quality.
To get started making movies, there is Final Cut Pro 2 video editing. A combination for independent film makers, multimedia producers and post production companies, and for video departments in schools and corporate training environments.
Your finished desktop movies can be viewed full screen, transferred back to the camcorder to watch on TV, saved on videotape or recorded onto a DVD-Video disc in full digital quality. You can also export your movies into one of several predefined QuickTime formats and share them over the Internet on your own personal web page, using iTools, Apple's suite of free Internet services.
Final Cut Pro 2 includes a QuickTime-based real-time editing architecture and new media management tools, support for virtually all professional video formats, and scores of feature enhancements. Plus a suite of animation, graphics, audio and compression software applications.
